JOYO Infinite Guitar Sustainer
The JOYO Infinite Guitar Sustainer is used to produce a variety of sounds not normally playable on a guitar using traditional strumming or picking techniques. These sounds are created by placing the JGE onto/above the string. The JGE drives the string using a magnet to vibrate a sustained note.
With this feedback loop, the player can create a continuous string vibration. Fading in and out by lowering, raising and repositioning near pickups, the result is a similar effect to using a bow.
Although the infinite sustainer would most commonly play on the electric guitar, because of its ease of use and the responsiveness obtainable from the pickup, experimentation with other types of string instruments is always going to happen. The JGE is the perfect tool for creating ambient tones.
Use the JOYO infinite sustainer on electric guitar for best results. Try to use any ebow kind of device on a bass guitar, acoustic guitar will produce limited results as the material and weight of the string increases. Generally, an acoustic guitar will give the most limited response on the bottom 3 strings, slowing the response rate but giving a rich, flute and clarinet-like tone with a slow-swelling response.
If you imagine a slow infinite sweep of a bow on your string instrument this is what the JOYO JGE infinite sustainer achieves, it is an Electronic-Bow.
If you want to hear who has used a sustainer like this (but not quite this one) listen to the following tracks for some examples:
• Pink Floyd - introduction to "Take it Back"
• Blue Oyster Cult - (Don't Fear) The Reaper" (at 3mins)
• Coldplay - "Amsterdam", "Spies", "See You Soon", "Princess of China", and "Oceans".
• A Flock of Seagulls - "Wishing (If I Had a Photograph of You)".
• Japan - Quiet Life and Gentlemen Take Polaroids.
• R.E.M.- "Walk Unafraid" - "E-Bow the Letter"
• The Dandy Warhols - Fender Bass VI on "Godless"
The JOYO JGE infinite guitar sustainer is finished in a pearl white ABS plastic with an ergonomic design, it feels solid but not too heavy to hold in place, powered by a 9v battery which is included.
